Trio Celete to Return to CSUB for Residency
10.6.17

CSUB Music is proud to announce that Trio Céleste will be returning to CSUB for a 3-day residency in April of 2018. During their stay the award-winning piano trio will read new works by CSUB student composers, present a recital, coach local high school students at the Chamber Music Workshop, and host other activities with CSUB students.

CSUB has had a wonderful relationship with this group over the last 5 years.  Kevin Kwan Loucks, piano, went to school with Professor Jim Scully, and the two have continued their friendship and professional relationship over the years. Joining Loucks in the group are virtuosi Iryna Krechkovsky (violin) and Ross Gassworth (cello).

Trio Céleste recorded Scully's piece Wistfully Mischievious in 2015 for their debut album.

The 31st Annual Bakersfield Jazz Festival, Directed by Jim Scully,

was held at CSUB on April 28 and 29 of 2017. Thanks to our title sponsors - Dignity Health and Motor City Lexus of Bakersfield - we held a great 2-day event featuring performance by Christian Scott, Kurt Rosenwinkel's Caipi Band, Donny McCaslin, and many others.

This event is a staple of the spring event calendar in Bakersfield, and raised $22,000 in scholarships for current and future CSUB students.

Jim Scully named Director of the BJF
7.1.16

With the retirement of the founder of Doug Davis - the founder of the Bakersfield Jazz Festival - this iconic event needed a new leader. On July 1, 2016, Professor Jim Scully was appointed as the new Director of the Bakersfield Jazz Festival. Dr. Davis and CSUB President Mitchell passed the torch at the end of the academic year.

Jim thanked his predecessor and mentor for entrusting this event to him, "Thanks to Dr. Davis, and CSUB, for having faith in my ability to take this event forward.  As a beacon of the private/public partnerships CSUB is known for, I'm excited to work with our corporate sponsors to raise money for scholarships and provide an amazing 2-day event for our community."
